Here's a place to discuss the Inspirations.

For all of you who don't check my blog regularly, here's some news on the new faces: http://www.southerngospelblog.com/archives/2193

Daniel I posted a comment to your blog but I will ask here. Wasn't Armonde Morales a Fillipino. I though I read that somewhere.

Did you see my reply there?

I'm not sure. I wonder if Armond was of Filipino descent but David was actually born there, and that's what he meant.

Daniel,
My parents saw the Inspirations Friday night.
I also talked to another couple.
For some reason they weren't too impressed with Dallas, but were with the new lead.
I have a theory about that.....nostalgia. The lead position has changed multiple times, but the tenor has not. They all acknowledged that Dallas Rogers was good, but brought up Archie.
Archie and Jack were present, they tell me.
In all, they did think that they made a good line up.
I hate that I missed it.
Jason

Interesting.

I'm of the opinion that Dallas is enough Archie's style to keep most of the old fans - everyone except those who, for nostalgic reasons, wouldn't like anyone but him at tenor (and I can understand where they're coming from!), but that he's also distinctive enough and good enough to win the Inspirations a new group of fans.

I think Rogers is good enough to win most die-hard Archie fans over.
It seems the new lead is from Michigan. Evidently he was at PCC in college when he got the call to go to work for them. That's the story my parents gave me after the concert.

Seriously? Two Yankees in a row, and two Michiganders, no less?

(I've always thought the term "Michigander" is a little funny, since those I know have said it mish-uh-GANDER, just like a male goose. If it was me, I'd prefer Michiganian!)

He's young, too.
Probably the youngest in a long time. I understand he's 21-23. I can't remember exactly what they said.
It seems that he heard some of their recordings way up there and formed a group with his brothers. They patterned themselves after the Inspirations and went to hear them when they could. Later he told them he was interested in singing with them, so they called when the opening came.
Sigh....I wish I had made that concert. We don't get many down here anymore.

Does anyone know how Troy Burn's bypass surgery went today? The website said the singing news would post updates but I haven't seen anything so far.

They are saying on Praise 96.3 radio (Local Christian station) that Feb. 28th Mull Convention concert will be the last concert for Archie Watkins as a regular member of the Inspirations. That concert will be at New Hope Church on hwy. 66 in Sevierville/Kodak, Tn. This will be the Inspirations and McKameys. And this also will be one of the last concerts for Carol Woodard with the McKamey's.

I just got the e-mail from Singing News confirming that Archie Watkins is leaving the Inspirations after the February 28 concert.

And the notice said he is going to do solo concerts. That really surprised me.

I'm really surprised at the content of the press release. Lots of things were NOT said, like neither party wishing the other well in the future....... a resignation rather than a retirement...... I don't know, something just doesn't feel right.

Archie Watkins Resigns From Inspirations Quartet

Long-time tenor and founding member of the Inspirations Quartet, Archie Watkins, has announced his resignation after 45 years on the road with the group.

Watkins informed Singing News, "I will be continuing my ministry as a solo artist." His last appearance with the Inspirations will be Feb. 28 at New Hope Church (formerly the Lee Greenwood Theater) in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Maybe I'm just tired! Time to think about making my way upstairs to bed!

I just got my hands on the Inspirations new CD "The Son Came Down" when I saw them on the first, and it is great! I LOVE Dallas's solo Dealing With Gold, he is the perfect tenor for them. This is going to be a great Cd for the Inspirations - does anyone else on here have it too? :D :-) :D

I bought my first two Inspirations projects while I was in Gatlinburg. I picked up I Know from 2006 and How Great It Is from 2008.

How do you like them Jeff? I have those two CD's also. They are wonderful projects! I Have Not Forgotten, How Great It Is, I'm Safe and The Rose are some of my favorites off of those.
