In a bold move, the LeFevre Quartet announced their decision to retire the family name with the recent passing of matriarch Eva Mae LeFevre. The group will be known as "Priority".

There are no personnel changes and no changes in musical style, just a new name. Audiences will continue to hear the trademark harmony and talented musicians.

I just got an email on this and was headed here to post it. But you got here first.

Yes, it is a nice tribute. And they chose quite a different name, didn't they?!?! I like it! We'll have to make a change on their quilt block!!

Oh wow. That is neat. I hope they get the exposure they need so people know who the Priority Quartet is. I think having LeFevre in the name probably helped. They seem to have a great ministry. I've only heard a few songs off their latest project but aren't they the closest thing Southern Gospel has to Praise & Worship?

I am surprised by this name change. Not against it, just surprised since Mike LeFevre is kin folk. If not member of the group had the name that would have been more understandable. Again, not saying anything against the change......................just wondering out loud.

Maybe he'll go back to the LeFevre Quartet at some point.

They went by The Mike LeFevre Quartet unless that had changed. So that, in a way, seperated them from the LeFevre family that would remind you of eva mae. Not arguing the change. Please let's make that clear. Just my thoughts. Loved Eva Mae.

I wondered that too, Santa. Since that is his name.

In the past, groups have had to change their names FROM "Priority", for legal reasons. It will be interesting to see how this goes...

Personally, I think Mike should go back to "The Mike LeFevre Quartet". That's a very fitting name. When he dropped his first name from the group - about the time they signed with Canaan- I felt like the group kinda lost it's real identity. To me 'LeFevre Quartret' just didn't get it. But, it's their choice and not mine.

I understand the need for the change but I sure hope the word gets out so that people know who Priority is. Maybe it should be Mike LeFevre & Priority, at least for awhile, until the name is known.

Not necessarily, we have a number of blocks for groups that aren't the same as now. With all the other stuff you have to do, I think it would be ok the way it is. But that's your call!

It has been said elsewhere that they were kinda forced to change their name by the owner of the group name "The LeFevres". Has anyone heard this or is it just a rumor???

I believe the press release said it was a LeFevres family member who called for the change.

I think it is sad when Mike is a Leferve and the only other Leferve that choose to follow into SGM that call would be made but it's within their rights I guess.

I think it's pretty pathetic when you can't use your own name.....what if every Hopper or Collingsworth or Edwards for that matter did the same thing. There are too many people that share the same last name to be asking junk like this. I'm sorry, but whoever owns the name, 'The LeFevres', does not "own" Mike's name....this kind of garbage makes me ill.

Thanks to you all for your concern about our name change. Eva Mae was always very supportive of our group but there have been members of the family who did not want us using the Lefevre name even though it is Mikes last name. We decided after fighting this for almost 2 years that the money we were spending on attorneys could be better used in ministry. We believe God expects us to be good stewards of the funds He blesses us with so we decided that we would move on and try our best to continue our ministry. Even though we had the right to use Mikes name, our attorneys said it could cost up to $25,000 to defend that right in court. We did not feel right about spending that amount on top of what we had already spent to this point. We believe God will bless our efforts to be the best we can be with the funds he has blessed us with, so please continue to pray for our ministry. The lives that are being touched by this music will be blessed regardless of what our name is because it truly is not about us, but about Him!!!
